"Up the Ladder" The Real Cost of Changing a Light Bulb"

Today I'd like to touch on energy efficient lighting. While this subject is extensive, and much more technical than Janitorial supply, we need to emphasize the importance and the Eco Friendly implications of lighting.

Lighting has a huge impact on the Eco Friendly structure of our cities. Every time a maintenance person climbs up a ladder to remove the lens or can covering the lamp, then to change that lamp, secure it and come back down the ladder, the average cost to your company is about $5.00 per trip! This factors their time, insurance, the cost of the lamp, the risk factor to both the person doing the job and anyone walking underneath.

We need to look at the bottom line for your company instead of each departments' budget. Installing energy efficient lighting will cost a bit more, but the lighting doesn't burn out in a few days or weeks, the color and intensity are the same, and your energy bill will plummet for each lamp installed. Overall, that bottom line will improve dramatically, while pushing your company even more into that Eco Friendly posture we have all come to know. Actual overall savings can be up to 50% over conventional lamps depending upon the number of lights in your facilities.

Enterprise represents the Sli line (Sylvania Lighting Industries) and we welcome your questions or comments.

The "Green" process: Reasons for faltering

As we begin the summer months I would like to touch on the reasons why a state would have difficulty becoming "Green".

As mentioned in my last article, there are only a small handful of states in the United States that are truly defined as "Green" states. The question has been posed, "Why is this the case and what are the reasons for this difficulty?"

In every state there are uneven, if not unattainable policies. Some states' policies tend towards budgeting and finance, others are more ecologically inclined.

Costs are invariably a huge factor in consideration of bills and issues that a state must consider to go forward in the "Green" concept. Simply, from a cost standpoint alone, it is easy to see why a state may elect to take its time on many issues, including the "Green" initiative. But pressures for a clean and healthy environment persist, and these pressures will lead this country down the "Green" path in time.

Perhaps at this time states' incentives are simply not strong enough to allow them to proceed. Whatever the reason, it is clear that the first step, that of becoming "Eco-Friendly" is very important.

As a Resource Company, we would like to help our customers within California, one by one if need be, to take on this very attainable goal. We would like to introduce you to other concepts like source reduction and the unburdening of the landfills. I will discuss in subsequent articles how all these concepts integrate into a "Green" model for other companies to follow.

Going Green, Myth or Mysticism?

In this month of July I would like to start out by emphasizing the value of Green chemicals. These chemicals are truly “Green” and are endorsed by one of the "Green Approval" organizations. This would be an excellent way to start the process of converting your company into one that will be perched and ready to “Go Green” when it becomes appropriate to do so. I invite you to check back often as I discuss in our forum many of the methods that your company can take that will easily transform you into an ecologically environmentally conscious entity.

In fact, to date, July 2010, there are only a small handful of states in the United States that are truly defined as “Green” States.

The reasons are multifaceted, but suffice it to say it isn’t easy to attain this status. As time goes by, more and more states will attempt to “Go Green” but will encounter many difficulties and perhaps falter. Check my next blog for the reasons they have these difficulties.

A more constructive avenue would be to become “Eco Friendly”. While an entire state would have difficulty becoming this ecologically sophisticated and environmentally conscious, companies themselves will have little to no difficulty achieving this goal with the proper help.

There are many ways to become “Eco Friendly” and as a company in California it is well advised to do so.

Choosing our Resource Company, rather than a simple supplier of goods is an excellent way to start as we have this knowledge well defined.

In future articles I will discuss the techniques for attaining Eco Friendly status, and the benefits and money saving potential it offers.
